Create apps from scenes

You can create a web app with a scene using ArcGIS Configurable Apps templates or ArcGIS Web AppBuilder, ArcGIS StoryMaps, or ArcGIS Experience Builder. Different templates and Web AppBuilder offer various functionality, such as different layouts, color schemes, and tools. Start from Scene Viewer, the content page, or the item page. Choose a template or open Web AppBuilder, StoryMaps, or Experience Builder to configure their components, and publish the app. As an alternative, you can download a template and deploy it to your own web server.

A published web app is based on a scene authored with Scene Viewer or ArcGIS Pro. Any changes the author makes to the scene, including its extent, layers, description, and other properties, are reflected in the web app. If a scene that was available to everyone in the organization is made private or deleted, the scene no longer appears in the app.

Create an app with Configurable Apps

You can create a web app with Configurable Apps from the content page, the scene item page (using the Create Web App button), or from Scene Viewer (using the Share button). The following steps show how to create an app with Configurable Apps from the content page:

  1. Verify that you are signed in with privileges to create content.
  2. On the My Content tab of the content page, click Create.
  3. Click Configurable Apps and do the following:
    1. Choose the Display a Scene (3D) filter to see the apps that use a scene.
    2. Click a thumbnail to see a description of the app and access the Create Web App button.
    3. Click Create Web App to start configuring your app.
    4. Type a title, tags, and a summary for the app.
    5. If your portal administrator has set up content categories, click Assign Category and select up to 20 categories to help people find your app. You can also use the Filter categories box to narrow the list of categories.
    6. Optionally, select a different folder in My Content in which to save your app.
    7. Click Done to publish the app.

Your app is published to the portal and an unshared item is added to My Content. To make your app accessible to others, you need to share it.

    8. Select a scene to use in the app and click Select.
    9. Change any other configurable components in the app, such as the theme, widgets, and miscellaneous items.
      Note:

Your organization may have specified brand colors or a logo to apply to apps created by members of your organization. When you create an app that supports these Shared theme settings, the specified settings will be applied instead of the default theme of the app.

    10. Click Save to save your changes and click Close when you are finished configuring your app.
