Install ArcGIS Mission Server using the installation wizard

You can install ArcGIS Mission Server using the installation wizard or the command prompt. For instructions on using the command prompt, see Install ArcGIS Mission Server silently.

Note:

The installation mode you choose determines the default uninstallation mode. For example, if you choose to install silently from the command line, it defaults to a silent uninstallation from the command line.

Each machine with an installation of ArcGIS Mission Server requires an authorization file. The recommended method of registration is to use the software authorization wizard, which opens after the setup installation, or you can visit My Esri to obtain an authorization file before installing the software.

Prerequisites

Before you install ArcGIS Mission Server, do the following:

  1. Verify that your machine meets the system requirements for ArcGIS Mission Server.
  2. Modify the firewall of the ArcGIS Mission Server machine to allow communication on ports 20443 and 20300.
  3. Obtain your software download and authorization file.

After completing the steps above, follow the steps below to run the ArcGIS Mission Server installation wizard.

Note:

At this release, ArcGIS Mission does not support a multiple-machine server site.

Install ArcGIS Mission Server

To install ArcGIS Mission Server, complete the following steps:

  1. Create a Windows account for the ArcGIS Mission Server account.

This will be the Run As account for ArcGIS Mission Server. It is recommended that you use a domain account, which you may need to request from your IT department. If you use a local Windows account, the installation wizard can create the account for you. Starting in 10.8, the ServerConfigurationUtility command line tool can be used to configure the ArcGIS Mission Server service to run under a gMSA. See ArcGIS Mission Server administrator operations for more information.

  2. Run the ArcGIS Mission Server installation wizard you downloaded from My Esri.
  3. During installation, you will be asked the following:
    • Provide a location for the installation directory. The installation directory contains the ArcGIS Mission Server files. Specify a location on the computer where you want to store these files. The default installation location on Windows is C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Mission\.
      Note:

ArcGIS Mission Server does not support shared network directories that are hidden or that use special characters (such as $).

    • Optionally use a server configuration file to import your Windows account credentials if one is available. Server configuration files can be exported during ArcGIS Mission Server installation and used in future installations. If you have a configuration file available, you can import it when prompted.
    • Optionally export the account credentials used in the current ArcGIS Mission Server installation to use in a future installation. The server configuration file that is created is an encrypted XML file.

      Note:
When exporting a server configuration file to a network share, the Local System account on the machine where ArcGIS Mission Server is being installed must have write permissions to the network share. For example, if you're installing on a machine named Turing, the Local System account on Turing must have write permission to the network share. If the permissions are not set, the server configuration file may not be exported successfully.

Once the installation is complete, use the software authorization wizard to authorize your instance of ArcGIS Mission Server.
